Yes---I sought out the CHEVRON 93 on that long 1,800 mile trip--and combined with what you once described as an "Italian Tuneup" of driving, the car ran great !
But I don't drive to Atlanta and back every week. Especially in the midst of a beautiful summer here in West Michigan.
Judge my reply in the original poster's context.
My car does not instantly notice any differences between the various fuel companies' 93 octane. I sure it would notice a "bad tankful", but knock on wood, the consistency here in W. Mich. between the gas stations is not noticeable. (It all flows--Shell/BP/Mobil/ etc.-- through the very same pipeline to the fuel depot 30 miles away from here!)
Just ran 800 miles over the weekend, on Meijer 93 octane starting here and BP 93 octane (refilling in Ohio). No difference in performance. 28.7 aggregate trip average includes the city driving and the 30 minutes of 25' at-a-time on US 23 in 88 F. A/C on the entire time!
After the conclusion of the trip, the car runs smoooooooth--probably due un majority part to 85-90 mph speed and the "Italian tune up" factor associated with it.
