Another question on clearing "Service" message

I searched the board for a solution to this, found one and followed it to the letter, but still no luck. I just purchased at '00 9-3 with 36K last week. After a couple of days the Service light went on. My old '97 you just simply pressed the clear button continuously until it cleared. It appears that now, the direction is to push it once until it chimes and release. Push it again until it chimes and continue holding until it chimes a second time. This will work for the next one or two times you start the vehicle, but the Time for Service then reappears. Any tips to avoid a trip to the dealer??
Thanks in advance.
