SFSC called me yesterday and asked my intentions with my 2002 SE at the end of March, which is the end of my lease. They offered to sell it to me for the lease residual value of $14,204. It's a midnight blue 5-speed with 37K on the odometer and dealer maintained, plus Mobil 1 OW40 or 5W40 every 5k. The SFSC rep said they weren't inclined to lower the buyout amount, as my car would bring more at auction with lower than normal miles, being a hatchback and with a 5-speed. I told him to "have at it" on April 1st and let me know what they got for it at auction. Has anyone gotten a lower-than-residual offer from SFSC in the past 60 days?

The rep also said I would have to turn the car in to the dealer, who, in turn, would give me a receipt for the car. They'd arrange to have the car inspected shortly thereafter and send me a written report as to any additional charges. There shouldn't be any, as the car is in very good condition (except for tinted windows, which I was told counted as damaged glass). I'd rather be standing there when the inspector "does his thing," as I no longer have control over the car, and thus it's condition once I walk away with a receipt in my hand. Is this the "norm" for lease return inspections?
