Just my 2 cents...

I'm the original owner of an '02 convertible, also a stick, with appx 75k miles on it. The car has had all scheduled maintenance, as well as oil changes every 5k.

The mechanicals in the car will probably run forever, as I have not experienced any engine or transmission issues. I cannot say the same for the electrics in the car.

So far, I've had 2 window regulators fail (the same part twice -- once at 200 miles, the other at 70k). Saab has had my window regulator on back order for over 3 months -- I'm still stuck with a non-working window in my convertible during the summer.

The driver's seat belt buckle (female end) on the seat has also been replaced twice -- once at 15k, the other at 75k); the reason for both replacements: the fasten belts sign on the dash would not stop illuminating.

I'm ready for a 2nd SID (my pixels are fading again) The first SID was replaced at 35k.

The A/C Compressor and convertible top sensors were replaced somewhere around 45k.

The door lock motor was replaced at 72k. I had a leak in my A/C Evaporator, which caused my passenger carpet to become soaked, also at 72k.

The rear part of the center console has become separated from the front part, however my extended warranty company will not cover the cost of replacement ($150), so I will not be fixing it. The car has also required a few hood badges, some readjustments to the cables in the convertible top, and replacement of various suspension parts to stop that dreaded cold weather squeak.

Needless to say, my experience with this particular Saab, my first, has not been a promising one. I have an extended warranty through WarrantyDirect (original owner, couldn't get the car CPO'd b/c I ran out of mileage before the end of my lease, therefore I had to go with an aftermarket warranty company). I am VERY thankful to have the foresight to purchase the extended warranty.

So the moral of the story is, get a warranty and cross your fingers!
Good luck!
