For the benefit of others that want to use an Ipod or other mp3 player with the factory head unit of NG 900's, this may help. I know there's a procedure that elliott came up with that involves tapping into the CD changer cable; the procedure I followed involves hacking into the signal leads for the tape player and hacking into the tape-in circuit in order to fool the headunit into thinking there's a cassette playing. The circuit that controls this is normally closed, so by connecting a momentary push button style switch, which also is normally closed, in series with this circuit, one can open the circuit by pushing the button, and activate the tape mechanism, even if there's no cassette present! The head unit will then pickup the audio signal from the mp3 player, now that its soldered in... A nice solution... I certainly cannot take any credit for the idea though. I followed a series of posts on 'another saab forum' from 'inquirer', 'cleveland' and 'buckhenry'. Just do a search for 'stereo and ipod question' in the NG900 workshop forum. I don't want to put the name or link here, not sure if its against forum rules. The procedure was straight forward, though a little time consuming. I chose to locate the momentary switch that activates the tape/mp3 leads on the face of the head unit, beside the volume knob. The look is amazingly stealthy and looks totally stock. Plus, I think this is an intutitive, natural postion for the button. For those of you with NG900s who, like myself, do not want to sacrifice the look of the factory head unit to play MP3s I highly highly recommend this upgrade. The sound quality is crispy clean, and its a cheap solution (maybe $10 in parts total). For me personally, I think this is one of the most satisfying upgrades I've made to the car. While I haven't yet decided where I'm going to mount the headphone jack, I've posted a few pics of the present setup.
