Hi Devon,
Just (well, this summer) replaced the heads on a 'free' V6 900SE. Not a bad job - did get to know the Snap-On tool guy pretty well. If I were to do it again, the first question is: do you have a lift? If the answer is yes, drop the engine out and replace with one of the 3.2L advertised on the site. Barring that, I did it in the driveway with hand tools. Took about a week or two of occasional work. Cost is about the same. I let Saab do the timing belt and tensioner but that was a bit too costly. Next time, I'm sure I can do it with the right tools (see that Snap-On guy yet again). Parts costs were a bit high but good stuff from the links on the list. Check the piston crowns to make sure there was no damage lest you have a failure with the top ring binding. 12 exhaust valves replaced (~$40), all new seals, new oil cooler (single most expensive part - optional but I replaced as it was right there with the heads off and they do fail with much higher mileage than yours).
The result is a very nice car. I may be in the minority, but I like the V6. Smooth, good power (above 3000 rpm - it just wants to keep going).
I'd be happy to help anyway I can. Remember, the engine is used in the Cadillac Catera and Saturn Vue. 3.0L engines with lower compression for regular gas - slightly higher HP (180 vs 170 if memory serves). Another option but we're back to getting the car prepped to leave the engine on the ground (complete subframe removed while lifting the car up and away.
