My 00 9-3's factory wood dash panel cracked above the headlight switch and is poking out about an inch enough to scrape up your hand. It takes a good bit of force to push it back so I doubt there are any glues that would work for long. I purchased a Genuine Saab replacement panel P/N 026-8698 which is a stick on burled walnut panel for M99-02 9-3's at a closeout price of $99.00.

What is the best way to get the old one off? Can I clean the surface with iso alcohol, or do I need a special cleaner? Best way to fit the new one? Do I have to remove all the switches, SID, radio and steering wheel? Do the switches just pull out?

After a search of the archives, some say that the whole panel including plastic substrate must be replaced but this does not appear to be needed as the thing is just stuck on with glue tape. Maybe these were from posters who had never done the job and just speculated about it. I'd like to hear from someone who has actually removed and replaced this even if it was with a carbon fiber or aftermarket fake wood unit.
