fuel tank float location direction in tank

Dropped a new fuel pump in 1996 saab 900se turbo. Taking it out was not easy, think prior owner attempted. Everything was bent and whole unit was at like a 45 degree angle from back to front \\\\ like that towards front of car.
Problems
* Springs to top intake unit broke at plastic "nubb" So top to bottom was like a slinky!
* managed to get unit out etc.
* Dropped back in however alignment notch is off Sensor is now wrong.
* Whole unit sits sideways still in tank.
Questions
#1 Is there a molded casing at bottom of tank everything sits flush in?
( Hence spring loaded to hold unit at bottom of tank when secure )
#2 Direction or location float should be pointed inside tank for better fuel level reading?
#3 Big O'ring does it go under or over the fuel line intake and overflow top of unit? Gas was seeping up from tank!
Unit still functions and is acceptable for the cost of a replacement to me is not justified!
Thanks Steve
