Update: Got some from Toyota. Totally worth it Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Wed, 31 Aug 2016 07:08:54 In Reply to: Anders or Nick: Is red rubber grease needed for rebuilding, bender [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 23 Aug 2016 10:12:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It's called lithium soap base glycol grease. They only had the tube the mechanic uses so they gave me the used tube for 10 bucks instead of 30. It's definitely a high quality rubber grease and this job is such a pain in the butt that I want to do it once and right without taking any risks over using a cheaper lube.
I put some all over the boot, a little bit on the piston and then used brake fluid to wet the inside of the bore. It slid in beautifully. Highly recommend using this stuff.
