The problem I had was with the heater in my '99' base model. The model with the manual rotary control knobs. There was problem with distribution box design. Might have been inadequate lubrication that caused the rotating drum to lock up in the housing. There was a service bulletin that describes a way to modify the clearance between the box and the internal rotating drum. In my case the box was still available back in '09' and I replaced it. I heard the dealer book time on the job was a day or a little more for the labor. The box was close to $500. I had a dealer mechanic friend help me or I might might still be working on it. He had done a number of the box replacements when he worked at the dealer. An alternative is to pop out the heater control knob assembly. Then take big screwdriver and manually turn the drum to a mix of windshield and floor for winter. Then in warm weather turn it back to dash vents.
