Wow you are a tough case ! but you are wrong ! FYI there are many completely stupid laws and this may well be among them LOL ! Call me a scofflaw if you wish, but I and many others just use better lights! I will never stop ! and noone enforces the dumb headlight rules anyway ! Thank God ! and I harm NOONE ! I guess if you don;t care for it thats too bad ! thats just silly ! blinding people does not happen( much ) ! You would probably never know I have very bright lights as I am not blind, have excellent reactions, am very considerate and can see an oncoming car and just turn on the low beams! potential problem solved, Done! The police BTW have NEVER had an issue w/ my lights and when I have been stopped for other reasons, like speeding, or a taillight out several times they said " Hey those Saabs have good lights ! They are very safe " HA HA ! LOL ! I would say that it is FAR more dangerous to have DIM lights ! I was struck by a car in a crosswalk some years ago , became a flying man ( 50 feet !) and was very seriously injured ! the driver said "I couldn't SEE him (ME) ! w/ the $ settlement, I bought my Saab Viggen ! As you seem to be hypersensitive to bright lights may I suggest using the sun visor ! ( I do sometimes, to block part of the light ) and my optometrist fixed me up w/ some "night driving glasses " I much prefer solutions rather than complaining about problems ...............".It’s a fact that car headlights are getting brighter. The motor industry is continually boasting about how it has improved lighting performance, to keep drivers safe. Meanwhile, eye specialists say the downside is that this actually impairs the vision of increasing numbers of some drivers in oncoming traffic. especially OLDER drivers .
At the same time, as drivers age the eye’s lens and cornea effectively become misty, and as bright light in shone through them, drivers suffer something called ‘disability glare’. Studies have shown it can take up to 10 seconds to recover from the phenomenon......................Is there a quick fix for drivers?
Happily, there is. Professor John Marshall, of University College London, says anyone can buy and use special clear glasses, even if they don’t need prescription lenses. These have a coating on the lens to absorb ultra violet light and prevent glare when driving at night. They are relatively inexpensive, from £10, and any optician will be able to advise what best suits a driver’s needs.
Other preventative measures
If your car’s windscreen is dirty, either on the inside or outside, the dirt will cause light to refract, making it harder to see where you’re going. It’s also important to ensure your car’s headlights are correctly adjusted and the bulbs aren’t aged with use. And don’t forget to take an eye test regularly – at least every two years, according to optometrists." .................. PS we use and recommend "invisible glass " a special glass cleaner !
