BTW here is one of our unfinished, long term project !
here is where a PACK RAT ATE A HOLE IN MINE !
to find someone to make the underhood insulation it is NLA fr ORIO !
does someone know a sailmaker? mattress maker ? they would have the equipment/apparatus and skill to sew up a multi-layer part in that size ! the original was actually a complicated , engineered part of multiple thickness layers.
IT NEEDS TO BE MADE SO IT CAN BE ROLLED UP LIKEA POSTER AND STIFFENING BATTENS INSERTED LIKE A SAIL FR A SAILBOAT !
the original maker destroyed all the tooling molds , patterns , forms etc and the OEM had to be shipped one piece, flat by TRUCK ! ( and took nearly 20 YEARS to wear out ! )
Note the article we wrote in 2017 !
SAAB NEWS
Saab 9-3OG Underhood Insulation No Longer Available
April 10, 2017
If you might be interested in this part, You may have heard that ORIO (a global supplier of Original Saab Parts) cannot supply the underhood insulation for Saab 9-3OG (900NG) 3 it is NLA ( no longer available ) and ORIO advised that the tooling used to make it was destroyed (?!).
Schnellsaabs has been hard at work to find, locate a new manufacturer to supply it. schnellsaabs is trying to determine what model years of 900 – 9-3’s the same hood insulation would fit?
They also seek to calculate an estimate for the #’s, of cars extant, left that might need it. Can anyone hazard an educated guess what # the market might be? As well, do you know of a company that could, would produce it – An OEM replacement ( we imagine it could be re-engineered, upgraded to function better and last longer)- like made to be rolled up to be shipped in a tube and stiffening battens like a sail be inserted to keep it rigid and not sagging down like the OEM part !
This part IS needed and helps protect the paint fr underhood heat and the engine components fr the sun above ! In case of an underhood fire it has kept cars from being totaled ! 🙂
