New convertible top fabric TOO TIGHT! Posted by MC [Email] (#1472) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MC) on Thu, 6 May 2021 12:00:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
As with many others on the forum here; DIY replacing of the top canvas has proven to one of the more challenging endeavors in 9-3 convertible ownership.
I'm hoping for some tips and guidance where I'm a bit stuck here.
The window glass is fitted to the new canvas and i'm in a state of reassembly where there is just too much tension between the rear bows to be able to get the top to latch and close.
What I've found is; with the canvas full mounted across all the bows, there is just too much tension to allow the 5th bow to meet the latches in the tonneau cover lid.
Seems as though I might be missing an adjustment somewhere ?
or did I simply cinch up the canvas to the glass too much ?
There's not much slack to work with back there. So it's doubtful it could be pulled so tight at that the bow latches are a good 1" away from meeting the lid.
The canvas is from a reputable distributor (m n t out of RI), but I'm also getting a funny feeling about the fabrication of the rear canvas to the front half.
Laid the old canvas over the new tight one and they seem to match up end-to-end with not more than a Millimeters difference or so.
Somebody tell what went wrong here!
I'm at wits end about to just take it all back apart and try to slip the old canvas back on so I can close it up and get it out of the workshop for now.
