Replacing audio head unit Posted by NCCaniac [Email] [Profile/Gallery]

My 2000 9-3 has the OEM audio head unit with cassette and the OEM CD changer in the hatch. I recently purchased a JVC head unit that a Viggen owner parted out from his Viggen so it already has the wiring adapter for plugging in to the 9-3 connectors.
The first step is I used my Tech II clone to divorce the CD changer from the head unit and remove it from the hatch area. That worked great and I have still been using just the radio until I can complete the swap in the next couple of weeks.
My question is, do I need to also use the Tech II to divorce the head unit from the car itself before plugging in and installing the JVC head unit? I think so, but I have not seen anything definitive on that.
Hmmm...thinking about it some more, I guess it would need to be divorced to allow for it to be installed/married to another 9-3 if I later decide to sell it, but if not planning to sell it, then divorcing it probably is not necessary.
