I have a '96 900SE turbo automatic that has intermittent re-starting problems. It never happens on a cold start, it only happens after it's been driven long enough to reach operating temperature. My experience has been that if sits idle for a couple of hours after the problem occurs, it will restart. What happens is, it cranks with ease but will not catch. It all began a few weekends ago returning from a restaurant. As I was driving on the highway the power was cutting in and out and it actually stalled a couple of time on the way home. The next day the car wouldn't start and I had it towed to the dealership because the check engine light also came on. They told me it was the alternator and replaced it. Now, the car starts faster and the power doesn't cut in and out but this intermittent starting problem remains. It happened to me twice last weekend but the dealership couldn't reproduce the problem and nor could my personal mechanic, and he's had it a week now. No check engine light comes on and I tryed exchanging my DI cassette with an old one I'd replaced last year for an unrelated problem and it still wouldn't start, so I doubt it's the DI cassette. Please, any suggestions would be appreciated.
