I've used both Maguire's Gold Class carnuba liquid wax and Mother's carnuba liquid wax and I would say that the Mother's is easier to buff off once applied. I never noticed any difference in results in terms of smoothness or reflection.
Also, I don't think wax expires as I've used the same bottle for almost 3 years before, but if it has been subjected to really cold temperatures, it might not be the same. I had 3M glaze that separated from exposure to cold.
Either way, good luck. I recently did clay, polish, glaze then wax and the results were fantastic although it took me a long time.
