I've heard Rust Guard is good, but I just bought the duplicolor primer because of availability. It was more important to get this done before the winter. It says rust resistant or something on the can. I cleaned out the rust as well as I could. I could only see bare metal and original primer. There was basically just surface rust beginning on the tiny area of bare metal exposed through the damaged original primer. Cleaning out the rust didn't enlarge the chip as much as deepen it. I think I needed a few more paint coats to get a more even paint layer before a very thin clear coat at the end. It also may have helped to sand the intact paint down a bit so I had more of a valley than a canyon to fill. I'm not sure though. I will watch for any paint bubbling due to further rusting and redo it all at the first sign.
