Unless your cable model gives you 10 Mb/s transfer rates, which is unlikely, a the 'g' standard buys you nothing. Cable and DSL rates are 300kb/s typically on a downlink and 100kb/s uplink for Bell Sympatico which we use.
I use Airport at work too where I have 10/100/1000Gb/s to the desktop, but I am limited there by the 'b' card in my Mac. Time for the new 15 incher I think !
Airport is easy to set up and I like the funky flying saucer. It's a conversation piece as well as a wireless hub.
Wife and I use PB G4s with Airport 'b' cards in them and Apple Airport works through out our 2 storey plaster and lathe house and 150 ft back to the fence in the back yard.
