Well....
I have two.
'99 XJ8 - beautiful!, fun to drive for such a large car, tons of power, and luxury that only the brits know how to do. At 42000 miles, it's been extremely reliable.
'89 XJ6 Vanden Plas (XJ40 series) - also beautiful, reasonable power (although my SPG will blow its' doors off after 50 mph). Confirms my theory that the brits should never have been allowed to manufacture electric/electronic stuff. After I removed the rear end self-leveling features the mechanicals have been quite reliable (171 K miles), but the electrics are another thing entirely. It's a very good thing that I can troubleshoot.
The famous "bulb failure modules", rebuilt all 4 from scratch; four! relays per corner light assemly, and cruddy internal connectors. Cabin fans (there's 2) are another nightmare: $500 each and they have 2 relays and a small circuit board in the air stream. Lots of corrosion problems, and you need at least 4 hours to R&R each one. The rest of the electronic climate control is similar. Far too complex for the technology when they were designed.
Other issues have been the auto seat belt systems, fortunately Jag replaced the after 10 years as a safety recall. Brake pad wear sensors, ABS control, sunroof motor, servo motors for the AC flaps, and a few others I can't recall.
I still think it a wonderful car, but for long trips it's the XJ8, or the SPG.
