My advice would be to have your wife and son go to a doctor ASAP for a complete checkup. I know they say "I feel fine", but in a few days, they might start getting the aches and pains that often are masked by the rush of the event.
My wife's car was backended about 15 years ago. She felt fine. But then, a week later, her back started acting up. She went to the doctor who found a slipped disk. The insurance company said "too bad... it was too long after the accident... we aren't paying".
Cars are tools that get us from place to place. Just like a DeWalt is better than a Craftsman, some tools are better than others. Your wife and son benefitted from the quality of the Saab and its safety features. You can take satisfaction in the fact that they are unharmed, and the tool did its job. It can be rebuilt, unlike a person's kneecap...
