Here's what I'd do.
You didn't state *how* you were sending letters. If you have not done so, send another letter, CERTIFIED, **Return Receipt Requested**. That way the recipient has to sign for it and you will have proof they did. Without that they can just play dumb ("sorry, our dog like to eat mail so we never read your letters") and you have no proof they've even received your mail. Hell, for all you know the kid is grabbing the mail before mom and dad can see it and dropping it in the shredder.
You also need an attorney ready to go so that you can threaten them with legal action if they do not respond to you. If they blow off the certified letter, let your attorney handle all future communication. Receiving a terse letter from an attorney's office usually gets the attention of most folks. Continued ignorance can get expensive and complex for them and most people are trying to reduce expenses and complications in their lives.
I'll be interested to read what others have to say. I'm sure you'll get some excellent responses. Good luck to you.
