panel gaps are pretty big since they have to allow for the higher expansion of the polymer that they use. the paint is also more flexible so that it won't crack when you push the panel in.
take a trip to a saturn dealer...they usually have demos set up where you can bounce your kids off a door.
i heard that the ion will be the last plastic bodied one though...people are bothered by the panel gaps that give the illusion of poor quality assembly.
