the distinction is not so clear; it might look "easy" to drive NASCARs, but I challenge anyone here to go to one of the Petty driving schools and see how little you really know about how they work and what it takes to win a race.
I can play golf pretty well (at one point in life I had about a 2 handicap), and I like to race cars as a hobby. I think I have a much better chance of making the PGA tour than I do ever driving in a NASCAR event. Golf is an individual skill, while NASCAR requires a HUGE investment of millions of dollars on top of individual skill, involving a much larger number of people: engine builders, car designers, pit crew members, sponsor liasons, etc... the list goes on and on. With Golf, you have the player, his coach, maybe a personal physical trainer, and a sponsor or two, plus an agent. His investment is minimal; only his clubs, his time, and anything else his agent feels like paying for.
Plus, getting in a NASCAR is risking your life, while golf is only dangerous if:
- the course has aligators
- John Daly is playing behind you and having a "bad day"
- thunderstorms are looming
- you are a woman teeing off at Augusta National
- you are really drunk and the course has a lot of lakes into which you could fall
