i used to work for a company many years ago that had a joint venture with fuji film and spent a lot of time in japan. if there on business i imagine your contacts will show you sights , some of the memorable things in kyoto are the ryoanji(?sp) temple with the rock garden with the 11 stones set in a bed of perfectly raked white pebbles (from any vantage point one of the 11 stones is always blocked from view- a zen thing). as well make sure to have a cup of tea ceremony tea, tasty opaque green tea. stay at a traditional guest house called a minshuku at least one night, pricey but worth it.
