Vonage isn't bad but you're limited by your ISP. Usually your download speed is faster than your upload. The problems you might have is, a caller sounds fine but they say you are choppy. That and if the internet goes down your phone does as well.
The problem is to get VoIP to work properly is you need QoS which will allow voice packets have priority over data.
I have Vonage and work from home sometimes, a perfect example is yesterday I was sending an email attachment and my sister in law called while it was uploading and she had a hard time hearing me.
The other drawback is you will need an expandable phone system since the phone line comes in through an adaptor that plugs into your cable modem.
The nice thing is I had the unlimited package from Verizon for 49.95 but after the taxes in VA it was almost 75.00/ month. VoIP is still un regulated so the government hasn't been able to tax it just yet.
Someone mentiond that GM uses VoIP but they have a different configuration, more than likely they are doing Voice over Frame Realy, Point to Point T-1's or Secure VPN Gateways that will do QoS giving you good sound quality.
I hope that helps.
