inscribed in a given circle. If a line is drawn from a vertex of the triangle to the center of the circle, it'll measure the same as the radius of the circle, 10" in this case. That line also represents 2/3, IIRC, of the length of the altitude - which in this case would be 15. The altitude is also the long leg of a 30-60-90 triangle, which means the hypotenuse is twice times the quotient of 15 and the square root of 3. The hypotenuse of the triangle formed by the altitude is the side of the inscribed triangle, so the formula: Let S= side of triangle, D= diameter of circle, and A=altitude of triangle, then A=(3/4) x D, and S= A x (2/sq. rt. of 3) or put another way: S equals the quotient of three times the diameter and twice the square root of three!
