probably what is best for you. A Lexus is really just a gussied-up Toyota--and there's nothing wrong with that. Yotas are excellent cars and extraordinarily reliable but are too much like appliances for the tastes of people on this site.

Saabs want to be DRIVEN. They want you to put the boost gauge into the red zone. They have an feeling, an edge to them that most other cars lack. But they have to be cared for. Most of us here have a love of cars in general and a passion for Saabs in particular. Most of us do some or all of our own work. Saabs are generally are quite reliable, but they do have stuff go wrong. And since most of us LIKE to fix our cars ourselves, we discuss it here so why you see mechanical and technical problems discussed. As you look at the things we discuss, note that many of us have cars with over 100K, and even over 250K miles that are still running strong. That tells you a lot about these cars and the kind of folks who own them.

My 1984 Saab 900 was THE most reliable car I've ever owned --it's still in my driveway-- after 20 New England winters. I don't see many 20 year old Camry's or Corollas around, but I still see other mid- 80s Saabs. My '96 Saab 9000 is a bit more finicky, but still better than most other cars--at 106K miles. I do tinker to keep it that way but it's worth the effort.

If you are looking for image and want an appliance with a nice ride and upscale image, buy a Lexus. If you want an automobile with some spirit, speed, safety and superior engineering, buy a Saab. After all, you may find them as addicting as the rest of us...and start hanging out here. And if you do, welcome!

Noel
