I'm still trying to figure out what caused the slow leak, which was apparent as soon as I had the tires put on for the winter season. I bought them used last year, but they were problem free all last season, so either they spontaneously developed a leak while in storage, or the garage did something when they installed them back in November. I also don't know what caused the slow leak to turn into a fast leak two nights ago. Either way, it's fixed now.
The fix-a-flat in a can...my hesitation was two-fold. The directions on the can said to fill the tire with it, then drive for 2-5 miles to allow the sealant to coat the interior, then go to a gas station to refill to proper pressure. This seemed dumb to me because I only had to go two miles total from work to home whereas the tire was very low but still visibly inflated and the nearest gas station was about five blocks away. I was pretty sure the leak was slow enough that a refill would get me the additional mile and half I had to go (which it did). The can also said, "Good for tires up to 14 inches!" and my winter tires are 15". I figured I would save the can for sometime when I'm much farther from home, for a situation that might be an actual emergency (as opposed to just a headache).
