I have 3 of these units in my house (yes, a little excessive but with kids, it makes sense), each with two lines into them. This gives me the ability to record 6 shows at once.
You only need two inputs for the DirecTV TiVo if you want to enable the dual tuner. This would give you the ability to watch/record another program while recording something on the other tuner. Unfortunately, the other line must come straight from the satellite (via a multi-switch). The way this done is two lines come from the dish (you may need a triple LNB for all 3 satellites) into a multi-swith. From the multi-swith, the individual cables go out.
So the short answer is that it looks like you will need to run a new cable in your house to support the dual tuner feature in the TiVo. Note again that it is NOT a requirement to have two inputs for the TiVo. I had only a single tuner in my house for a long time and it was fine. You CAN watch a recorded show while recording a live show. That works fine with one input.
Another alternative is to get 2 TiVo boxes hooked up on different TV. They are so cheap now that it may be best. That's what we did at our old house. The kids had one and we had one in the bedroom.
Check out the BB below for more info (there is a forum on the DirecTV with TiVo) ....
