Chrysler 300 sales pale in comparison to Toyota Camry and Honda Accord sales. GM and Ford lost the market to Toyota and Honda and Nissan. They didn't lose to the 300 by any means.
The Camry and Accord are comfortable, boring, and reliable cars. And they sell in quantities that GM and Ford only saw back "in the day".
In order to compete effectively, GM and Ford have to get rid of the gaudy interiors, poor build quality, and old groaning engines. Get into a Camry or Accord, and the interior is plain and understated, the build is impeccable, and you can barely hear the engine at all.
