My beachhouse is near a pretty big intersection.. Up in Seabrook NH. Of course a beachouse that is only used seasonally is quite different than a year-round house.
Anyway, up there it can get pretty loud. Nights are calm and all you hear is the ocean, but during the day motorcycles can make it annoying if I'm in the front part of the house. The rear of the house (which faces the beach) is pretty quiet however. I DO like to sit on the front porch and watch the traffic though. Its mesmerizing. The yard isn't an issue, since the beach pretty much is the backyard, and the front yard is mostly driveway.
Bottom line: I can stand it in a house that I only use from April to October, but I can always go sit on the beach for some peace if the traffic gets to me. I don't know if I'd be able to stand it year-round with constant traffic (peak beach traffic is only in July and August, after that its quiet).
