What I'm planning for is nowhere near the light pollution. Merely getting down the stairs safely during some evening hours. Without equipping everyone with maglite, that is. And when I have that, I will be able not to use those lights already mounted on the house itself that we "inherited" by buying it. Your link doesn't really help choosing the right lights though, be it humour or arrogance.
