Anders, I'm so sorry for your loss. My dad passed almost 15 years ago and hardly a day goes by that I don't wish I could talk to him, that he could see his children and grandchildren grow into the same sort of kind, thoughtful, and loving people that he was.

I've never met you or your late father, but the picture and message you've posted allows the imagination to run, to invent heated exchanges between father and son that took place over that kitchen table. I will not presume to know how well you did or didn't get along, but let me offer this:

The most dramatic events are the easiest for any child to remember; what gets lost over time are all the many small, unremarkable moments that you shared at the table with your dad and your family. I hope that you will take the time now to recall some such memories and carry those, too, with you through life. Those moments, not the arguments, are what shaped you into the person that you are today.

I've been reading the SaabNet forum for a few years now and have often marveled at your generous and helpful advice, doled out to friends and strangers alike. I have three kids of my own now, and I will be exceedingly proud when they help others as selflessly as you have helped us.

All dads would.

Scott
