What PSS does is detect if nodody, a small passenger, or a baby seat is in the passenger seat. If that is the case, it deactivates the air bag to prevent serious injury. I'm not sure how the light works on Saabs, but I think that if the air bag is deactivated, the light comes on. This is good to know if you're a petite adult who thinks that the air bag should deploy for you.
It's a safety thing, meant to make up for certain people's ignorance when they put small children in the front seat. It's meant to save lives. What's ironic is that air bags were originally designed to also accommodate people who didn't wear seatbelts.
As for the name, the lawyers told us that it can't overpromise its capabilities. That's why it is not too descriptive as to what it does, not that it doesn't work.
