I'll have to assume that your PC is of the "older" variety and does not have PCI-Express, which most PCs are currently shipping with.

With my research, and trying to come up with a new Video Card for my recently built rig, I went the BFG 6600GT OC. Unfortunately, my timing was just short (along with a should I upgrade to might as well "start" over") of the switch, so I was looking for a sub $200 AGP card. All signs pointed to the 6600GT, which outperformed, or hung with all but the $300+ cards, including the 6800, 6800GT, and the 8000 or whatever ATI had at the time.

I had previously been an ATI man, but everything shows NVidia outperforming ATI. And because the 6600GT was priced at $200 (now I see them for $150 and below), native AGP (6800 is PCI-E converted to AGP), etc., this was the one I chose. It handles apps, and more importantly, the latest and greatest games as good as any AGP card can.

Of course, things may have changed in the past 3-6 months to prove me wrong, but it still looks like a great deal for an older PCs upgrade.

For you, I would first verify that the eMachines has an AGP slot to upgrade your video card, and then I have to plug either NewEgg or TigerDirect. Also, be sure to check specs, and try to stay away from the cheaper, generic manufacturers of the cards, as some do not enable pipelines, are only 64-bit (you will want 128-bit or 256-bit), etc. Memory isn't the key driver of performance - a 128mb 128-bit card (same "chip") will most likely outperform a 256mb 64-bit.

Good luck, and ask away if you have additional questions. Lots of info out there, so I know it can be difficult to parse..

Sean
