Depletion of stratospheric ('upper atmosphere') ozone causes a problem with increased UV light, which bad for skin, bad for shallow water organisms, bad for plants, and causes cancer. But, it has essentially nothing to do with global warming! -- so cleaning up the chemicals mostly responsible for destroying ozone (which are the chlorofluorocarbons) wouldn't do anything to slow down warming.
Nothing personal, but it drives me crazy when mistaken ideas about global warming are circulated. I see this from pop TV shows, and I think there must be highschool science teachers busily propagating crap (hopefully unknowingly) because I even encounter graduate students who remain confused.
Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases (methane, nitrous oxide..) trap heat in the lower atmosphere (bottom 15km), preventing heat from radiating back out to space. That induces warming.
