Ah, yes.... those darn interior surfaces! I suppose all that infrared has to go somewheres, eh? No, it's absolutely no fun at all to sit on hot surfaces. Peter, I acquiesce to your argument. Thank you for being so reasonable in your reply.
As I mentioned previously, this is just my opinion, of course. I still believe that the primary goal of anyone allowed the privelege to drive a car should be: The Safety of Others. I also still believe that permanently reducing your visual acuity for reasons of vanity is counter to this primary goal.
No continuation of argument here, just more info to tuck away:
I wasn't trying to say that the interior space of a car with tinting gets hotter than that of a car without tinting, only that tinting doesn't perform the cooling function people think it does. Yes, tinting absorbs the heat before it reaches the seats, but whether it's captured in the pigment of the window film or captured in the pigment of the seats, infrared's going to heat things up. I believe it does feel cooler when you're not in direct contact with the heated surfaces, but I also believe that the heat is still contained within the immediate environment. Perhaps it's this non-direct contact that people perceive as being actual reduction?
My red Saab's interior is tan, so its infrared reflectance is higher than your black. Also, my seats are fabric, so they circulate cooling (& warming) air much better than leather.
My unintended "experiment" was performed on a charcoal Buick with navy naugahyde seats. Although it was certainly a prime candidate for captured interior heat, the dark interior/exterior combo did nothing to accelerate the snow melting off any of the glass surfaces surrounding the small tinted section.
