Concrete is more expensive, more difficult to repair, more susceptible to damage from road salt, but also more durable.
Asphalt requires periodic maintenance as you already know, is more susceptible to damage from over-weight vehicles, but looks nearly new after every re-sealing.
Concrete requires a week or more to install and cure. Asphalt requires only one or two days from start of installation until use by home owner.
I have concrete with my subdivision home but would go with Asphalt if I were replacing a gravel drive.
p.s.: My day job is project management for the repair, refurbishment, and eventual replacement of over 183 Million square feet of pavement surfaces - enough for a two lane highway from Detroit to Miami.
