Ari,
I appreciate the suggestion to repair the break. Sometimes I do the repair sometimes the element gets replaced. The repairs I've done on 99's, and a few 900's lasted a couple of years. I've had two 9000's and never had the element break.
This one is on my daughter's 1996 900SE Convertible with 42m miles on it. We intend to keep the car so it will get the new element.
I'll try using alcohol when I do the repair next weekend weather permitting.
Thanks for our help.
