Blurred Lines / Foreign & Domestic Cars Posted by EGD [Email] (#663) [Profile/Gallery] (more from EGD) on Sat, 29 Aug 2009 08:56:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So what's a 'foreign' car these days?
Walked the new car lots this morning and I checked out a Ford Fusion SEL and a couple of Toyotas.
The Fusion is (almost) decent looking and relatively inexpensive. Made in Mexico (VIN starts with a 3) with 50% Mexican content and 25% US/Canada content. Sounds foreign to me.
The Toyota Sienna minivan was made in the US (VIN starts with 5) and was 90% US/Canada parts content; the Camry was made in the US (VIN starts with a 4) and had 80% US/Canada content. The Corrolas were all made in Fremont, CA with VINs starting with a 1. Don't recall the parts mix. Anyway, these Toyotas sound fairly domestic to me so clearly the lines are blurred between what's a foreign and what's a domestic car these days.
On another note, I ordered a CarFax for my 2001 Saab I'm prepping to sell. The first item notes that the car originated in Taiwan. Who knew? [Guess you shouldn't really believe what your CarFax says! :) ]
