Most likely not. Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Sun, 18 Oct 2009 08:55:32 In Reply to: ot> using RAM from old desktop..., kooch, Sun, 18 Oct 2009 06:35:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There are so many variations of RAM out there these days and SDRAM is pretty old. Besides, 128mb, even TWO of them, is useless. Your new desktop probably has 4 slots for RAM on the motherboard. Two of them are probably free. That's usually the way they come. Disassembling the computer, while not that difficult, is not worth 256mb of extra RAM, even if the old SDRAM is compatible with your new computer. If you want more RAM for your new computer, go buy an amount that would be worth putting in. A couple 1gb sticks of RAM would not break the bank.
If you're going to put some RAM in, just be careful that you're grounded (touch the metal from of the computer) before you touch the motherboard. Unless you have a 64-bit machine it will not recognize more than 3.5gb of RAM. So if you put in 4gb it won't use it all. Good luck!
