Good advice about speed, and clearances inside fenders. I dimly remember signing something when I bought my 9-3 SC that said I understood I could not use chains on the car. Don't know about 9-5s.
I never used either growing up in northern Minnesota, but in California chains are often required in what seems to me to be very light snow. I had cables on my '75 Volvo and they worked OK, but I broke two cross cables and one circumferential cable in three years, so they're not for heavy use. I had diamond pattern link chains on my two C900s and OG 9-3. Traction was better and they were much more rugged, but the ride was much rougher.
Good luck with the choice and hope you never have to use them.
