When it snows in the Sierra we go there because we ski. We leave the 2001 9.5 SW Aero in the garage because I don't own 16" winter wheels and the lower ground clearance would just plow the snow until traction was lost, regardless of the cables or chains.
We do use the 2001 9.5 SW lpt which has 16" wheels M&S, which we run all year long. We add cables which go on easy, and enable us to drive on US Route 50 about 30-35 MPH in moderate, somewhat plowed snow. I don't use anything to tension the cables. We have had no clearance issues with the lpt.
The real issue with the Aero is clearance over the road, not traction in my opinion.
