It is so many different system out there and the 9-5 is a better one since it does still use a back up throttle cable or actually it is the throttle cable that actuates the electric system and moves the throttle.

Volvo on the other hand decided to go with a completely drive by wire system on the 99 and up and it was plagued with problems until 01 that led to a class action law suite and recall for 10 years 200,000 miles warranty on the throttle module just because the cars would stall dangerously anywhere in the middle of the road.

Now though, Volvo managed to hold out using technicalities so it is still 99 and 2000 cars out there that has not been fixed and soon the 01 are out of the 10 year limit also and they can start to charge full price (about $900.00) again for the repair as they did in the beginning before the lawsuit.
