Between the 5 series sedan, the 5 series wagon, the X6, and now the 5 series GT, just how big does BMW think that the market is for this type of
quasi SUV/SAV/Wagon type of bodystyle? The 5GT will essentially just cannibalize the sales of the X6 and 5 series wagon. When I see that the 5GT has a hatch I think back to the numerous annual BMW Car Club of New Jersey meetings with BMW North Americas product managers that I have attended; during these meetings, the product managers would all swear that BMW learned its lesson with the 318ti's (underpowered and undercontented) poor sales and never offer a hatch again in this country.
I wholeheartedly agree on the "Aztek resemblance" factor. Also, why would one want to pay a mid-$40 thousand price tag for a hatchback. Are the 5 series demographics the types of consumers who would be buying this vehicle?
I agree that the 5Gt is just plain ugly
