I agree that you need to test drive and evaluate the new 9-5 variants for yourself.
I drove the 9-5 Aero XWD at the Saab Owners Convention last month and thought it handled very well with the DriveSense and XWD and seemed to have plenty of power. It was a little "refined" for my taste, but I hear that the turbo 4 version, while not as quick, "feels" faster.
The lack of more premium interior trim is partly due to an issue with getting those parts from a supplier. (Many suppliers had shut down production when it was not sure Saab would be sold.) Saab is very aware of this and I would expect the 2011 models that should be available in a couple of months will have new interior options.
I am not completely disagreeing with your comments, but there have been good reviews in addition to lukewarm reviews. I believe the one British review you mention is of the diesel engine version, which is underpowered.
A large luxury sedan is not what I need, so I am not in the market for one, but I was very impressed with the 9-5 Aero XWD.
