Goodwill Warranty??? long

So my girlfriends 2002 Vue with 72784 miles and a CVTi tranny went to the dealer today (her choice) and was diagnosed with a bad tranny(stil working but probably not for long). She had the tranny replaced under warranty in 2007 and the warranty expired in May of this year. Replace cost=4800$. The mileage on the new "upgraded" tranny is about~35000.
The service manager advised us to contact Saturn to see about a goodwill warranty coverage due to low mileage and being just 3 months out of coverage. Thats nothing in the lifespan of a tranny. He stated that he has seen some customers get 5K towards the purchase of a new GM vehicle.
I know there were a few people here who were able to get goodwill coverage and was wondering about any ideas, tips, insider info in order to help us get this taken care of.
Shes really attached to this car as it was her first New car. Ive convinced her that its time to really get something else considering the resale value and the fact that even the upgraded tranny was a bad design only good for 3-5 years. We are just trying to get a little help considering everything else.
Thanks in advance,
Robert
