I will not be buying the new 9-5 Aero XWD because I just do not spend that much money on any car. And it is true that not many Saab owners may buy the new 9-5 Aero. I firmly believe this model is targeted at customers who left Saab long ago to buy larger Audis, in fact Victor Muller has said this is an Audi A6 competitor. Some Saab owners are buying them (as reported by several people on SaabsUnited.com). My guess is that more Saab owners will go for the turbo 4 9-5 coming out next, in both the sedan (and sportcombi next spring) where the price is more upper 30's to low 40's (about the same as 9-3 convertible is now).
I believe Saab came out with the new 9-5 Aero XWD first because they wanted to draw attention to a car with all the latest technology to show where Saab is headed going forward. I am sure they realize that not all Saab owners want to buy the very top of the model line.
Sales will continue on the current 9-3, as well as some on the new 9-5, but they realize the brand new 9-3 coming in 2012 model year will have to be a big hit as that is their "bread and butter" car that sells in the largest volume.
