Sorry... I meant that I don't tip waiters, taxi drivers and bar servers down here in Australia. When I visited the US I did make sure I left a tip for those people as it is the culture there) but thought it was 10% (according to the travel guides I read). I knew I had to tip but the issue for me was for whom and how much. Very confusing! I never knew you were supposed to tip the maid at a hotel for example!
Down here the only time I would leave a tip is maybe for a meal, but only to round up the cost to the nearest $10... i.e. meal was $77 I would round to $80 but only if it was for exceptional service. It really isn't expected down here to tip.
There is often an argument that having tips like the USA does makes the servers work harder. I disagree as down here the servers still work hard and most are very good (and don't rely on tips).
