An electric Morris Minor conversion 50 years ago.. amazing! I wonder how he was able to get it to pass the MOT (assuming it was in England).
I have to admit that I think the car manufacturers are going down the wrong path with electric cars. I certainly think there is a place for them in the future for short trips, but for those longer trips (and most importantly colder climates), I think using hydrogen to power the internal combustion engine is the way to go.
Filling stations could use solar power to split water into hydrogen and oxygen on site (and store solar generated power in batteries to allow the process to continue overnight). I don't know the relationship between voltage and splitting water into H2 and O, but I think there could be some research that could optimize this relationship. The heat generated by the hydrogen powered engines would give the occupants much needed heat in the winter. (And last time I checked, batteries efficiency diminishes as the ambient temperature drops).
